Dr. Makkouk’s Journey
Dr. Makkouk’s path to ophthalmology began right in Austin, when he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with high honors and a degree in biochemistry. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas, before finishing an internship at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Educational Background
Dr. Makkouk completed his residency at UTMB, where he was named ophthalmology chief resident. He then returned to Yale University as a vitreoretinal surgery fellow and clinical instructor. His special interests span a wide range of ophthalmologic problems, including macular degeneration, retinal detachment, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy.

Dr. Makkouk - very pleased. He easily explained Ophthalmology terms - I felt very comfortable with the eye exam and the next steps forward. In layman's terms - that would be "great bedside manners" he knows how to talk to patients! Adding - I have now completed both eye's - So happy with my results. I would highly recommend Dr Makkouk and his staff.
