Cecilia R. Sanchez, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in the medical treatment of retinal diseases. She will join Dr. Fuad Makkouk at Austin Eye Center in January 2027, bringing fellowship training in diabetic eye disease to patients in Austin and Central Texas.
Dr. Sanchez cares for adults with diabetes and retinal conditions. Her focus includes diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions, and retinal tears.
Dr. Sanchez earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas–Pan American in Edinburg and her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She completed her internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and her ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
She then completed a one-year medical retina fellowship at the Joslin Diabetes Center’s Beetham Eye Institute in Boston, focused on diabetic eye disease, with additional training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Vanguard.
