The Retina
The retina consists of a thin layer of cells which line the back wall of your eye. The retina can be thought of as the film of a camera; its cells are able to capture light and then transmit it to your brain via the optic nerve. Damage to this layer of cells can cause symptoms, such as flashes of light and permanent vision loss. There are many different types of retinal diseases, with some of the most common including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment/tear, macular hole, and even cancer. As a fellowship trained Surgical Retina Specialist, Dr. Makkouk and the team at Austin Eye Center have all of the necessary experience and tools to diagnose and treat all retinal conditions. For cutting-edge diagnosis and treatment of retinal issues in a comfortable setting call today or schedule an appointment online with Austin Eye Center.
